I think that would be very hard, because some AIAccounts (msn and xmpp  
specifically) have to call directly into their libpurple-counterparts  
to do some things the standard lowest-common-denominator-API doesn't  
support (just try to create a protocol-independent abstraction of the  
discovery browser...).
Perhaps this could be changed to dynamic symbol lookups by using  
dlsym, but this would be even messier.
