Adium X 0.86 Released

Thursday, October 27th, 2005

Hot on the heels of Adium X 0.85, 0.86 is now available for download. AIM users with large buddy lists will be glad to see the recent problems rate limiting errors while signing on resolved – changes to the AIM servers caused the problem, which affected most third party clients. Among other fixes and enhancements, we’ve also improved the File Transfer Progress Window and corrected an issue with .Mac accounts which was introduced in 0.85.

Quack on. 🙂

A Survey

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

In an effort to get a better idea of what our userbase looks like and what kinds of usage patterns they have, we’ve put together a nifty survey that we’d appreciate it if you’d fill out. It’s nothing particularly special, but as the program becomes more complex and has more options, we’d like to reevaluate some of the options that we’re providing and have more sensible defaults.
Don’t stuff the ballot box, but make sure to get the word out so we can get a reasonably accurate sample of our userbase.
Peace.

0.85.1 beta

On The Road Again

Monday, October 17th, 2005

I’ve got a couple things I’d like to talk about over the next few weeks, mostly about the direction we’re headed as we being the march to 1.0, our next major release (sorry 0.9, but you’re just not cool enough). But first, I’d like to (officially?) announce that I’m going to be attending Drunkenblog’s Evening @ Adler.

Now, a few things I’d like to clarify about this. 1) No, I won’t be on the panel 2) No, there aren’t any seats left. 3) Yes it (and the afterparty) will be available to download/stream sometime after the talk. 4) As far as I know, Jeff Melloy and I are the only Adium developer attending, so we’ll be sure to represent. If you’re going to be there, feel free to leave a comment, maybe we can form some sort of giant robot or something.

Next time, I’ll be talking about some design related issues that are going to affect end-users in 1.0, including logging and message views. Stay tuned!

Adium X 0.85 Released

Wednesday, October 12th, 2005

We’re proud to announce the availability of Adium X 0.85. This release is primarily a huge bugfix release, but it also introduces some neat enhancements.

In the bugs department, a bunch of crashes and user-experience issues have been solved, from the much-reported crash when accepting canceled file transfers to autoconnection of Jabber accounts and quite a few things in between (including closing one of the oldest bugs in Adium history in which the Color Picker stole our tab switching shortcuts). Check out the Version History for the full, extensive list.

As far as enhancements, the most important to AIM users is most likely that we’ve updated libgaim to include the AIM file transfer improvements implemented during the Google Summer of Code. AIM file transfer still isn’t perfect (please don’t bombard us with problem reports related to it!) but it’s definitely much-improved for most users. Additionally, we’ve added a Google Talk service type, expanded the Speak Text action, and more.

Adium X 0.85 also says “¡Bienvenidos!” to Spanish speakers with the addition of a long-awaited Spanish translation. 🙂

Adium X 0.84 released

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

Adium X 0.84 is now available. It’s just like 0.83, but without the whole “not loading your buddy list properly” thing. We’d like to extend a big ‘thanks’ to all the users who helped with testing builds as we resolved the problem. 🙂

You can’t win them all

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

In a showing that runs thoroughly contrary to all appearances in our month and a half of beta testing, Adium 0.83 has provided us with some unanticipated difficulties. The result is that a number of people are not seeing their entire buddy list after updating. An updated, working release of Adium 0.83 will be available shortly. In the meantime we have reverted the site to provide Adium 0.82 which should continue to work as expected. Adium Trac ticket #1272 is the releveant issue ticket for the problem. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Adium X 0.83 released

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

We’re proud to announce that Adium X 0.83 is now available!

It’s a recommended upgrade for all users, as it has many bug fixes and improvements as well as security fixes. The huge list of changes can be found in the version history. The executive summary is that after over 2 months of development past 0.82, this is the most stable version of Adium yet. Enjoy 🙂
