MSN custom emoticons
We mentioned in the release announcement that Adium 1.0 supports custom emoticons. We’ve had some people on the forums and on the IRC channel (among other places) questioning this, saying that “when my buddies send me an emoticon i don’t see anything.I only see the text…”.
In order to receive custom emoticons, you must turn them on. This is in the Preferences, on the Advanced pane, in the MSN section. This checkbox is supposed to be turned on by default, but there’s a bug in the code that looks for the default settings (which I’ve filed as #6212).

Maybe this should be turned on by default…?

And how can you send your emoticons to your friends? I chose on emoticon set by default, but my friends still don’t get a thing! Thanks

Ooops, I just asked too soon before further reading the forums. I’m clarified now, thanks anyway
Great work on this new version!

Yes, David, it should be – it’s just a bug that it’s not

Good job contacting the Vorlons on this release. They’re a shadowy bunch, with occasional flashes of insight. I’m sure they provided you with the requisite knowledge to complete this arduous task. (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, check the changelogs for 1.0, under Misc.)

I am still having on it?
I can’t view emoticon from my friend who use Live Messenger beta
but from others is Okay, what’s the problem?

because most people now use MSN personal messages as a
substitute for away messages, i think the priority for this
should be increased. http://trac.adiumx.com/ticket/767
It’s an emergency ! It’s THE feature that many msn user are waiting for !! Many instant messages clients have it like Kopete (KDE) and aMSN. Please do it for us

I edited a emoticon.phlist in Riceballs set.
Now, for some reason, every time I install this emoticon pack, Adium decides to tput the PNG files in a folder called “Riceballs.AdiumEmoticonOld” and put that in the trash, as well as putting the “Emoticons.plist” file in there too,
The Emoticon package is still left in the Emoticons folder in users/application support/adium etc etc, but theres no pngs in there, and the emoticons.plist file has only the first paragraph of code left.
if anyone has any idea why this is happening? I fail to see why it keeps trashing the files

Please allow us Adium users to send custom emoticons to MSN users! That is a huge feature making me regret installing Adium
everything else is great another cool feature would be being able to get rid of the border on chat windows just like you can do on the contact list.
