1.4 beta, 1.3.4 release
I am very pleased to announce the availability of Adium 1.3.4, our latest stable release. This features mostly improvements to the core: an updated libpurple, and an updated Facebook chat plugin. This is a highly-recommended upgrade, as it fixes an issue where Facebook would connect to the server too fast, utilizing too much bandwidth. 1.3.4 is likely going to be our final release for 10.4 users.
Along with our release of 1.3.4, I’m terribly eager to announce the first of our series of betas for Adium 1.4, which features two new protocols, IRC and Twitter, as well as a ridiculously long list of improvements, including the latest and greatest in the world of libpurple. 1.4 requires 10.5, so sorry Tiger users. 
From support for contacts in multiple groups, to an all-new authorizations window (which pulls together all authorization requests into one window), and more changes than you can think of, this is definitely an excellent release. Give it a shot, report any bugs, and enjoy your newfound pleasures!
If you’re looking for a group chat message style, since you can now set it independently of normal chats, feel free to check out my favorite, yMous. yMous has all the bells and whistles, and even includes topic support for Jabber and IRC chats.

I just upgraded to Adium 1.4b1 and it crashes right after start! Fortunately the old version was in the trash so I was able to restore it. I tried update it once more and it crashes again. Tell me if I can help you with solution.

WOW!!! I’m using beta updates and have been updated to 1.4b1 and all I wanted to say was WOW!
Reading through the changelog noted LOTS of brilliant new changes… IRC!!!
Oh and I have the following Adium Xtra Plugins and it works fine so far (no crashes):

everything seems to be working fine (10.5.7), but there’s a lot of things which haven’t been translated into polish. previous beta versions were completely translated, but the newest build isn’t. hope it’s just a matter of time, when you’ll release fully localised Adium 1.4
and btw: great job with the best IM for Macs.

hey i just updatet too, an now every time when i try to add a new contact, i enter the email an after pushing the sending buttom adium chrashed !!!!!!!! i’am using leopard 10.5.7 an msn client !!! any idee for help ????

Just upgraded and am having issues.
Folks see me as not connected, none of my IMs sending are going through.
Have to force quit the client as it won’t close out normally.

If you want to see the Timeline of twitter, after the setup of your account, restart Adium. The Timeline will pop up. You have to do this only once!

Twitter integration looks really cool, one request though: it would be great if the user have an option to choose to show up *all* updates from the people he follows on the timeline, since Twitter now hides replies for other people and will most likely not #fixreplies ever

I have IRC working, and have it auto joining a room. However, it always connects to the channel first. Is it possible to bypass the channel loading, and load ONLY the room?

so for people that cant find the timeline for twitter, try setting up twitter and everything and then relaunching Adium, seemed to work for me… also you can get rid of that list of everyone you are following in the preferences < accounts < double click on your twitter account < Options < uncheck display option.
love the new release, keep it up guys!! all thats left is video chat on my list, until i shut ichat down forever!

If I close the Twitter timeline window, how do I get it back without restarting Adium? Or can I just click on something to bring up a new tweet window without leaving the time line open?
This might be good for receiving tweets, but for sending I think I will stick with keepling Pimg.fm in my buddy list.

Too many bugs!
My contacts keep appearing in new “Other Contacts” lists and some services can’t receive buddies lists, etc.

You only need to restart once; it not displaying initially is a bug in beta 1 that will be fixed for beta 2.
OAuth problems are likely Twitter server issues.

It is quite annoying that more and more projects move to Leopard and/or Intel only. There is still millions of old PowerPC hardware and well running Panther and Tiger systems out there.

I installed 1.3.4 and now the TwitterIM plugin doesn’t work. If not through this plugin, how are people using Twitter through Adium? If with the TwitterIM plugin, on my 1.3.4 install, twitter does not show up in either the ‘add account’ services pop out menu or as active in my contact list. I have downloaded 1.3.3 again, renamed it and launched it to discover the TwitterIM plugin working fine along with seeing my twitter timeline. I’m running 10.5.6.

I installed the new update 1.4b1 I am having an issue with the twitter plug in, when I add it and log into my twitter account successfully and save it – it shows offline – Error: Adium isn’t allowed access to your account. Have four different twitter accounts I have tried each one and get the same message. What I’m I doing wrong? I noticed that other people are getting it to work.

I get a error, “not supported on this architecture” using 10.5.7 on a Macbook pro (2.2GHz Intel with 4GB ram) on launch with the 1.4.1 beta.

The problem I have each time I’m switching from a stable to a beta and the other way round is that after switching all my transcripts that were recorded during using the stable are gone, only the ones from using a beta are there. they come back when im switching back to a stable but then the transcripts of the beta are gone. thats very unfortunate cos i cant use the betas

I updated to beta, working on Mac OS 10.5.7 and I am unable to log to MSN. I went back to 1.3.4 and still not able to log in to MSN.
No idea what the problem is…. wondering … any ideas?

The twitter implementation is plain annoying. I don’t like it much, the followers in the contact list and their status as their tweets… Doesn’t compute for me.
The IRC implementation while a great addition still needs some patching up. I like it A LOT though. But here some tips:
- Allow us to disable sounds for (say incoming / outgoing message sounds) for IRC
- Allow some basic commands like /join and such.
- A console interface/tab per server (or where is it?)
- Allow an option to send CTCP/NOTICE and NICKSERV messages to said console
- Upon connecting to a new server the console should open by default indicating its connected and allow us to run /join things or whatever from there to get started. It took me a few minutes to figure out i have to predefine the channels in the IRC options pane.
Meanwhile, this IRC implementation is a great start!!

Also, all connections in Adium seem to be dropped every 10-15 minutes with the new libpurple engine…

x: actually we’re losing about 100,000 users, not 1. The majority of our users get a bunch of new stuff though.
SHRIKEE: You can customize the sounds for groupchats (includes irc channels) independently of regular chats. /join is supported. There isn’t a console currently, please file a ticket requesting it. Nickserv stuff should be handled mostly automatically in the current version. You join channels via the normal Adium groupchat UI; file menu > join group chat. You can then bookmark them and doubleclick to join.

well turns out that if you try and make a Zypher account Adium crashes and is impossible to start up again. So I am now unable to use adium at all. Please try and fix this bug asap. As I cannot use the program anymore. I am locked out completely.

Regarding Twitter capability.
In the Timeline window (accessible through the Bookmarks menu in the contacts list) How do we show ALL tweets that have already been posted? Mine just has the last 2 since I logged on.
Also, if double-clicking a user in the Contacts list = direct messaging, are we able to DM people that aren’t following us? (i thought u could only DM peeps who are following you)
Therefore, FEATURE REQUEST:
1. A way to differentiate who is following you vs only you following them.
2. Time/Date stamp for the tweets in the Get Info box of a user.
3. When we have many chat windows open, the green talk bubble in the tabs at the bottom should perhaps be Twitter-blue so we quickly know if that window is IM or Twitter.

I have been unable to log into Trac for two days now, in either Safari (3 or 4 public beta) or Firefox 3.0.10. Upon entering my login credentials, I get a redirect loop from to , which redirects back to , and after repeating this 5-10 times, all browsers give up.
Once this happens, I can’t even get to the plain page without deleting all cookies for the domain first.
It’s the kind of bug I’d report, if I could log into Trac. I have more information on a ticket I recently opened and can barely view it, much less add the new information.

What i meant with NICKSERV which works fine as it is. Is that when NICKSERV talks to me, say to confirm i logged in on my registered nick, it opens a chat with me. Most clients allow the user to direct those things to the console which is more convenient i think.
Is anyone else having trouble with the Gtalk certificate thing? Everytime i start Adium i have to “approve” its certificate because of a domain name mismatch.

Yep, MSN is broken for me after updating as well.
OSX 10.4.11
It just gets stuck while handshaking.
Under accounts it says ‘handshaking 38%’ and the status is stuck on connecting. It will give up and switch to reconnecting after a while, but then it immediately spins up to 38% again and gets stuck.

Upgraded my adium and now unable to connect to facebook. Adium seems to get stuck in a loop where it connects just long enough to show the contact list, and then immediately disconnects. It will keep doing this pretty much continually or until I stop it manually.

Trying to get get a Growl notification for each new Tweet that comes in, but they’re not coming up…Is there a way to disable getting the Timeline completely and set it to JUST Growl notifications, every time a new Tweet shows up? Using MacOSX 10.5.7.

As someone who has used many different IRC clients for the past decade, I have to say, “Wow.” I know that it is in its very early stages of life, but IRC on 1.4b1 is unusable/pointless. You should at least be able to use /COMMANDS.

wXR: Huge swaths of code were rewritten in simpler/faster/more modern ways that don’t work on 10.4. Sorry
That said, if the MSN issue turns out to not just be a temporary server issue, we will almost certainly do a 1.3.5 release to fix it.

It’s not working for me; I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.7. Intel. For some reason when I add someone, like 5 seconds later the contact disappears (I just made a new Windows Live account and I’m adding all the contacts I have on my other account to the new one, every contact I have is @hotmail or @live).
And also, you know the little duck on the top of the screen, how do you call it, hmm… menu bar, the duck on the menu bar, well I press it and then it pups-up a menu: the first option is “Contact List…” the second is “Options >”. When I press “Contact List…” the Adium screen disappears ( By screen I mean the little box where all the contacts are suppose to be), but the application is still running.
I don’t know, maybe just need to them to reply the request, but I’m just letting you know just in case.

How many total users does Adium have anyway? If you know that there are approx. 100,000 10.4 users, I’d be curious to know how many 10.5 Adium users there are.

Well, not working after all. 1.4b5 did not crash on start, it logs on to msn, gtalk, yahoo and facebook, but I don’t receive any messages and NOTHING happens when I double click on a contact to start to chat!
Same happens on 1.4b6. Had to revert to non beta version.

Asks to allow access, once i do twitter gives me a password, then when i click ive allows access i get the above error msg. Please Fix.

Twitter is now requiring authorization to connect, and gives you a pin number to enter into the application, which Adium at the moment does not support, I am sure by the end of today there will be an update to Adium to resolve this latest change to the twiterverse.
